Exercises help organizing tasks and submissions: you can set the timing for submissions, give feedback via text, email, or file, change the passing status and grades, organize your notes on submissions, and offer sample solutions. This object also offers a peer feedback function that automatically assigns peers and presents the criteria and timing for feedback. You will also receive an overview of given feedback.

  1. Select the „Add New Item“ button and then choose „Exercise“.
  2. Type in a name for the Exercise and click „Add Exercise “.
  1. Select „Text“ from the drop-down menu in your exercise editing mode and then click „Add Assignment“.
  2. Type in a title and work instructions for the assignment in the corresponding fields. After that, click „Save“ to confirm your entry.
  3. You can see how your assignment looks like from the viewers‘ point of view by first clicking on „Back“ and clicking and then on „View“.

  2. Type in a title and work instructions for the assignment in the corresponding fields. You should also determine which group-forming method is suitable for your case: „Participants Self-Organise Forming Teams“ or „Teams are formed by Tutors“. After this step, click „Save“ to confirm your entry.

    When the self-organising option was picked, students can create a team by clicking on “Create Team”. Further, group members can then be added by clicking “Manage Team”. To submit the team assignment file, click on “Hand In”.
  4. Teaching staffs can view and change the students’ team allocation by clicking on the “Submission and Grades” tab.

  2. Type in a title and work instructions for the assignment in the corresponding fields. Additionally, you can determine if the students should create the portfolio from scratch by clicking “Without Portfolio-Template” or with a specific portfolio template by clicking on “With Portfolio-Template”. After that, click „Save“ to confirm your entry.
  3. You can see how your assignment looks like from the viewers‘ point of view by first clicking on „Back“ and then on „View“.
    In this view, students can create a new portfolio or choose an existing one and submit it.
  4. The submitted portfolio can be updated or exchanged until the deadline.
  1. Firstly, select the “Edit” tab to access the editing mode and then click “Edit” on the specific assignment which should have a deadline.
  2. You can then determine a “Start Time” and a “Deadline” for the assignment in the corresponding fields.
  3. You can also add a “Grace Period” to determine until when submissions can still be accepted. It is important to note that “Peer-Feedback” can only start after the end of the “Grace Period”. After that, click “Save” to confirm your entry.

  3. You can select and upload a file in the corresponding field.

  3. You can upload a file here and determine if students should be able to access the file after the deadline or after the submission. After that, click “Save” to confirm your entry.
  1. Firstly, select the “Edit” tab to access the editing mode and then click “Edit” on the desired assignment.
  2. At the bottom of the side, the “Peer-Feedback” option can be activated.
  3. After saving, a new “Peer-Feedback” tab will appear. Click on the “Peer-Feedback” tap to access its configurations.
  4. In this tab, you can determine configurations for the Peer-Feedback. This include for example: how many feedbacks should be given and received, when students should receive the feedback, determining a Feedback Deadline, in which form the feedback should be given, and if a certain criteria catalogue should be followed. After that, click “Save” to confirm your entry.
  1. In the exercise select the tab “Submissions and Grades”.
  2. In this list overview you can click on “Actions” and “Download Submissions”. This way you can look at submissions and download them.
  3. In the column “Grade” you can directly grade the submissions. Confirm your entries by clicking on “Save All”.
  4. You can modify the list clicking on “Columns” and add columns. Confirm your selection by clicking on “Refresh”.
  5. By clicking on the “Action” button you can give feedback via email, text or using a file.
Select the tab “Submissions and Grades” in the submission area and choose “List of all submissions”.
Select the tab “Submissions and Grades” and in the submission area choose “Download all Submissions”.
  1. Select the tab “Exercises” in the exercise area and click on “Edit”.
  2. Click on “Show Peer-Groups”.
  1. To see given peer feedback, switch to the tab “Submissions and Grades”.
  2. Select the exercise of which you want to see the feedback.
  3. Click on “Actions” and “Show Given Peer Feedback” to see which feedback was given and received.
  4. If the feedback concerns a text submission you can select the tab “Submissions and Grades” and use the tool “List All Submissions”. Click on “Show Peer Feedback” and select the feedback you want to see.

  1. To submit a file, open the exercise and select the task.
  2. Click on “Upload File” and choose the file you want to upload.
  3. Click on “Upload” to confirm your selection.
  1. To submit a text in an exercise, open the exercise and select the task.
  2. Click on “Edit Text” and fill in your text.
  3. You can save your changes while working on it or finish the process by clicking on "Safe and Return”.
  4. It is recommended to create the text offline in a text processing program and then copy/paste it, to prevent being logged out of ILIAS accidentally.
  1. To submit a portfolio, open the exercise and select the task and select “Submit Portfolio”.
  2. You can create a new portfolio or use an already existing one. Probably your are going to use an “Existing Portfolio”.
  3. Select an existing portfolio and click on “Save”.
  4. By clicking on "Submit" you can ensure that you really want to hand in the portfolio. By clicking on “Download” you can see what the file actually looks like.
  1. Open the exercise and select the task you want to give feedback on. Click on the button “Give Feedback”.
  2. Now you see a list of the people you can give feedback to. Select a person and click on “Edit”.
  3. By clicking on “Download” you can download the file the selected person handed in.
  4. Now you can give feedback by the set standards.
  5. Confirm your entry by clicking on “Save”.
  1. Open the exercise and select the task you want to see feedback on.
  2. Select the button “Show Received Feedback”.
