Conflict Analysis: The Russian Invasion of Ukraine (under construction)
Learning objectives and brief outline
Abstract
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 is a threat to the security architecture on the European continent, it is worth analyzing the historical and political context of the conflict, the causes, the direct parties to the conflict, the positions of the main stakeholders, the stages of conflict escalation and possible ways to resolve it, including the conclusion of a peace agreement, the presence of peacekeeping troops on the contact line to prevent a relapse into war. The learning material will cover the theoretical framework of the conflict (neorealism and liberalism contrasted with the theory of decolonization, which, in the author's opinion, most accurately reproduces the logic of the aggressor and explains the behavior of the victim of the conflict), the historical and political context of Russian aggression. Students will be instructed how to construct and analyse the timeline, causes, the parties and external stakeholders (national states and international organizations), and the levels of conflict escalation according to the Glasl model.
Learning objectives

- Mastering the tools of violent conflict analysis.
- Application of one of the conflict analysis tools on a specific case.
