Joining a course

First you need to find the course you want to join.

There are various ways to do this:

  • via therepository: Curricular teaching: ILIAS -> FB  -> institute / Centre ->  WiSe 2024/25 -> Course
  • via an invitation email from the responsible teacher
  • via Marvin courses
  • via the search function

Note: Courses in which you are already a memeber can be found under the menu item   "My courses and groups" or "last visited" or Dashboard.

Once you have found the course, click on it. Either click on the "Join" tab in the upper horizontal level under the title or click on the write arrow in the small blue square on the right-hand side of the screen. A drop-down menu will open. Click on "Join"

There are different ways to join the course.

This depends on the teacher who has set this up.

Direct course entry

  1. Click on the "join" button
  2. Click on "join" again in the next overview
  3. You have joined the course

Joining with confirmation

Your application for admission to the course will be approved or rejected by the lecturer.

  1. Click on the "join" button. In the following view , you can add a message to the membership application. To finalise the process, selcet the "submit" field.
The ILIAS meesage follows: "Admisssion has been requested" A status message appears permanently under the course: "Memebership status: [application processed]"

Joining with a password

  1. To register for a course that is password-protected, you must enter a password. You will usually receive this in the course belonging to the course
  2. Click on the "join" button.
  3. Enter the password for the course in the input field. Click on join in the next view.
  4. You will then be added to the course.

Pay attention to upper and lower case when entering the course password!

Time restriction

Enrolment in a course is only possible within a certain period of time.

Quantitative restriction

A maximum number of participants has been set, which may not be exceeded. In this case, however, it is possible to join a waiting list.

How do I withdraw from a course?

To withdraw from a course, select the "Cancel course membership" button in the "Actions" menu. Confirm your cancellation of membership in the following window.you are now no longer a member of this course.the corresponding course will now also be removed from your dashboard.
