Game Design with ILIAS - Level
Difficulties
Defining difficulty levels allows you to create a high level of goal and process transparency for your course. When learning activities are assigned difficulty levels, learners receive valuable feedback about their own learning progress. In addition, the breakdown gives them a perspective on the goal of the course. When higher difficulty content is available early on, it can also give advanced learners positive feedback about the strengths they have already begun the course with. As learners master increasingly difficult tasks, they immediately learn that they have mastered a progression and feel empowered in their success.
Design of course
You can create folders for assigning materials and activities to difficulty levels. The assignment to the difficulty levels is then primarily done via the naming of the folders, e.g. material for advanced. However, you can use the possibilities of the page editor to also visually underline the difficulty, for example, through colored backgrounds or corresponding illustrations.

By using the preconditions you can assign content of your course to different difficulty levels and link the processing of elements with a higher difficulty level to the processing of easier tasks.
learning objectives-driven course
The course view "learning objectives-driven course" is ideal for mapping levels of difficulty. Learning objectives can be created for different levels of difficulty and named accordingly: e.g. CEFR language level A1-C2 and the corresponding materials and activities can be assigned to them. Furthermore, the view offers personalized feedback on one's own progress in the respective difficulty levels.
object test
In the test settings you have several options to increase the difficulty:
- fewer passes
- less processing time
- higher pass threshold

Object question pool test
With test question pools, you can create pools at different difficulty levels and create randomized tests from which a certain number of questions should come from each pool.
