A content page is an ILIAS object available since the update to version 5.4. The content page is created on course, group or folder level. It is equivalent to a page in the learning module, with the exception that no questions can be included.
Content pages offer many advantages:
They are easy to create: previously, to show content on a separate page, you usually had to create a complete learning module.
They can replace accordions in the course overview and thus reduce barriers (simply provide a link back to the course at the bottom of the page)
Content pages are suitable for numerous purposes, e.g.:
Provision of the semester schedule or literature index
Provision of handouts on course and examination achievements
Since videos and other media can also be integrated, you can also make preparatory content for the session available here.
Content pages are created in the same way as other ILIAS objects by clicking on "Add new object". The page editor works in the same way as in the other areas.

Data collections enable the joint creation and editing of tables. For that various formats for fields are provided. Filling the table happens in a clear entry-form mode. Single entries can be evaluated and anonymously or personally collected. Data collections are ideally suited for clearly structured, homogeneous articles, e. g. in form of a digitized herbarium. The data collection also offers a subscription function as well as the option to clearly present entries in a self-structuring page.
Tutorial
Since the video is in German, please follow the English description below.
- Click on “Add New Item” and select “Data Collection”.
- Choose a name for the data collection and click “Add Data Collection”.
Since the video is in German, please follow the English description below.
- At first, a standard table will be created. Within each table you can create fields. A field is like the headline of a table's column. The rows are then filled by the participants.
- There is a broad variety of fields. The field "text entry" is a very commonly used field type. In the video you can see that even within the different field types you will get a palette of options for each type. Furthermore, you can declare fields as obligatory and disable double entries.
- Within the register "content" you can fill a table yourself or have it filled collaboratively by your group members.
Since the video is in German, please follow the English description below.
- In order to create a selection menu (for example drop-down-menu) you can either create a text selection field or a separate table for reference.
- The main advantage of using a referenced table (i.e. a table whose content is integrated in yet another table via a reference field) is the variety of writing permissions that are available. This enables a broad network of interconnected tables.
Since the video is in German, please follow the English description below.
- Single views are like bulk letters, they consist of parts that are identical for each entry and parts that will adapt depending on the entry they refer to.
- In the overview of the tables you can switch to the views menue of a single table by clicking on "Actions". In there you can switch to the single view. Attention: Since the update to ILIAS 7 you can only navigate to this menue by cfirst clicking on the standard view and then choosing the register "Single".
- In the menu you find the regular page editor plus certain placeholders for the fields which are indicated by brackets. After inserting a place holder it will be displayed in green colour.
- As soon as the single view is activated, you can see a magnifying glass in the content register of your table. By clicking on it you will see the single view of the entry you chose. You can now browse through the entries like through a book by cling the button "next entry".

learning objective driven course view
- A learning objective driven course is primarily a presentation style for courses. Instead of being sorted by meetings or being unsorted, content is categorized by learning objectives determined by th…
Learning objectives consist of:
- Name and description
- Test questions comprising one or more tests
- Content of the ILIAS-course that is assigned to the learning goal (learning modules, web links, files, in short: everything that is part of the course)
- Learing objective descriptions give students an overview of the goals to be reached in this course.
- By assigning specific test questions, teachers transparently communicate expectations.
- This structure makes it possible to connect content and learning objectives
- Individual progression bars give visual feedback to students about what they have accomplished and how much they still have to do
Depending on your scenario there are different ways in which you can determine the progress. In each case you create test questions but there are different kinds of initial and final tests. In the setup of a learning objective driven course you choose one option each from the respective sets.
Entry test (optional)
- Comprehensive placement test
- covering all objectives
- separate placement test for each objective
- Comprehensive achievement test
- covering all objectives
- separate achievement test dor each objective
- No initial test
Learning content
Content
Students receive visual feedback on their individual progress within the learning objective. Objectices that have not been met can be worked on accordingly.
Final test
- Final test covering all objectives
- Separate final test for each objective
- The progress bar of a placement test is grey instead of red/green.
- Objectices are thus taken more as suggestions.
- Technically, a learning objective does not count as completed when a placement test has been passed.
The option "Comprehensive final test covering all objectives" shuffles the questions of all learning objectives of a given course. Answering these questions can be more difficult because the explicit context of a learning objective is missing.
Making a difference between entry and final exams is only necessary if the questions of the two tests are different ones. If exams are used as a tool for self-evaluation, setting up final exams suffices.
More info on the learning objectives:
The progress bar is only visible to learners. Teachers can only derive progress from the test results.More info on the learning objectives:
Further information regarding learning objectives:
The individual progress bar can only be seen by the respective student. Teachers can determine learning progress by test results only.
